Urge Jack in the Box to Cancel Its Crude Ad!
Jack in the Box restaurants may push away customers if the company continues advertising in a manner that offends parents with ads that include insinuated profanity. The company’s newest commercial has Jack, its iconic mascot, talking with Deadpool, the Marvel Studios character, after he and Wolverine destroy a Jack in the Box restaurant.
While looking at the damage, Deadpool apologizes to Jack about the mess he and Big Yellow made and asks if there is any way he can make it up to him.
Jack says, “Actually, you could help me promote my new Mini Chimi Bang Bangs.”
Deadpool erupts in laughter and asks, “You think I can be bought?”
Then, the commercial abruptly cuts off Deadpool’s words right before his insinuated but evident profanity: “You son of a ….”
Finally, Deadpool is shown helping Jack in a newly remodeled restaurant, as he asks in embarrassment, “This is only showing in Japan, right?”
Obviously, Jack in the Box chose to include this allusion to recognizable curse words and end the ad with viewers understanding exactly what was implied.
This type of advertising is entirely unnecessary. Jack in the Box has deliberately chosen to produce controversial advertisements instead of wholesome ones. One Million Moms finds this highly inappropriate.
What’s worse, these advertisements air during prime time when families are most likely to be watching. How damaging and destructive to children! Everyone knows kids repeat what they hear. This ad demonstrates weak marketing, and Jack in the Box should be more responsible in its marketing decisions.
Even though Jack in the Box is not located in every state, 1MM could not ignore this issue after we received numerous complaints from concerned parents. Some families may patronize the fast-food chain while on vacation without knowing how the company markets its restaurants.
Jack in the Box needs to know we do not approve!
