Schick Hydro Silk Should Cancel Its Crude Ads Immediately!

Schick Hydro Silk offends conservative viewers in two of its current “Hey, At Least Your Shave Is Smooth” commercials. In these razor ads, the insinuation of females being undressed completely or at least from the waist down is unnecessary.
In one Schick Hydro Silk commercial, a neighbor looks through a window and sees a woman just out of the shower without any clothes other than a towel on her head. But the freshly showered woman is relieved she at least has a smooth shave. Even though the camera angle partially hides the woman behind shrub branches, the shower situation is obvious, since so much skin is still visible.
The other Schick Hydro Silk ad features a woman at her OBGYN appointment. Again, the woman is partially hidden, since the camera angle is focused below the examination table as she puts her feet in the stirrups and shows her bare legs. The ad intentionally insinuates that she is undressed from the waist down. Then, the woman is shocked when five medical residents walk in with the doctor, but she remains calm because she at least has a smooth shave.
It is never appropriate for someone to remove clothing, especially an undergarment, or be undressed during an advertisement. Even though shrubs or carefully focused cameras hide the women in these two ads, the scenes are shot exactly right. They show nothing specific yet show exactly what was intended. The viewer’s mental image consists of females being undressed completely or removing their pants and underwear.
One Million Moms finds these commercials highly inappropriate. Yet, Schick has deliberately produced controversial advertisements instead of wholesome ones.
What is worse, these advertisements air during prime time when families are most likely to be watching. Not to mention the questions children will ask after viewing these commercials. Schick should be more responsible in its marketing decisions.
Let them know that, as a parent and consumer, you are disappointed by the company’s recent marketing choices.
