Urge Nature Valley to Cancel Its Crude Ad
November 04, 2026
Nature Valley continues to offend conservative families in its latest marketing campaign. One Million Moms has received complaints regarding a Nature Valley “Sweet & Salty” granola bar advertisement, which includes a double entendre about genitalia.
A recent commercial featured a man and a woman hiking through a lush countryside. Along the way, they refueled on a couple of Sweet & Salty Nature Valley bars.
Two opossums watched the humans and were shocked by what they saw. Enviously, one opossum declared, “Wow! Salty nuts and sweet granola dipped in chocolatey stuff.” The other opossum looked down at his groin and exclaimed, “What? My nuts are dipped in dirt, Gerald. Dirt.”
The implication is easily identified.
A vulgar play on words is unnecessary in this or any advertisement. The commercial relies on immature, crude locker-room humor.
Worse, this advertisement airs during prime time, when families are most likely to watch. Everyone knows children repeat what they hear. How damaging and destructive to young children! Nature Valley should be more responsible in its marketing decisions.
Nature Valley positions itself as a wholesome brand. Yet it deliberately continues to produce controversial advertisements instead of family-friendly ones. Let Nature Valley know that, as a parent and a consumer, you are disgusted by its marketing choices.
Nature Valley needs to know parents disapprove!
