Chips Ahoy! Mother's Day ad left some viewers with a bad taste in their mouths. In observance of Mother's Day, Chips Ahoy! tweeted "#HappyMothersDay to your moms, your drag moms and everyone who celebrates you being YOU." Included with that tweet was a video of a cross-dressing, grown man in drag. His name is Jose Cancel, but he goes by the name of "Vanessa Vanjie Mateo." Cancel has previously been a contestant on Ru Paul’s Drag Race.
In the video, Cancel rambles on as follows: “Ya’ll know what we’re celebrating today? Mother’s Day,” begins Cancel, with packages of Chips Ahoy! all around him. “and I am so thankful to have a mother like mine who supports me through all my craziness, and loves on me, and buys me Chips Ahoy! cookies, Chewy, the Original, everything under the sun. My mom knows I love my cookies. So get those cookies. And what’s a sweet gesture for you to do to your mama? — Your real mama, your drag mama, whichever mama, somebody, whoever take[s] care of you, whoever you feel or consider your mama — it’s their day today. Get them a cookie, or two, a pack, buy them all the Chips Ahoy! in the world, I don’t know. Get those cookies. It’s Mother’s Day. It’s time to celebrate. Love. All that. Cookies. Get ‘em, and if you don’t, how you gonna celebrate Mother’s Day? It’s the new chocolates.” And he ends the rant with a cat-like, “Neeow.”
Chips Ahoy!, owned by Nabisco and parent company Mondelez International, chose to honor mothers this past Mother’s Day by pushing an agenda of sexual confusion instead of celebrating mothers. The PC-inclusive ad attempts to blur the biological distinctions between male and female. It’s called Mother’s Day not drag day.
Thanks Chips Ahoy!, now mothers have to explain to their confused children!
In addition to Chips Ahoy!, Nabisco also produces Oreos, Fig Newtons, Honey Maid Graham Crackers and Teddy Grahams, Ritz Crackers, Triscuits, Wheat Thins, Nutter Butter, and a host of other cookies, crackers, and snack products.
