Frequently Asked Questions

Is OneMillionMoms.com associated with the Million Mom March?
No. OneMillionMoms.com is a ministry of the American Family Association and is not affiliated with the Million Mom March organization.

Who is OneMillionMoms.com?
OneMillionMoms.com is an online project of American Family Association, a 501(c)3
nonprofit, conservative, pro-family organization based in Tupelo, Mississippi. AFA has been in existence for over 25 years and is a well-respected member of the pro-life and pro-family community. AFA exists to motivate and equip citizens to change the culture to reflect Biblical truth.

How does OneMillionMoms.com work?
OMM is strictly an online campaign focusing primarily on the entertainment media (television, music, movies, etc.). The goal of this campaign is to stop the exploitation of children by such media.

Basically, the campaign works like this:
1. A concerned parent registers to join OMM. They will begin receiving an average of one e-mail per week alerting them to an action that needs to be taken.

2. The "e-activist" clicks on a link in the e-mail which takes them to an action page where they either use a default letter provided, edit the letter to their taste, or write a letter that more personally reflects their views. They fill-in their name and e-mail address, and submit the letter.

3. The letter is sent via e-mail to a list of relevant decision-makers.

Will my letter be sent exactly as I wrote it?
Yes it will. We do not screen or edit any letters written by activists.

What if my message bounces?
From time to time your message may bounce to one or more of the addresses included in the list. This happens usually for one of two reasons: Either the recipient receives so much mail their box fills up, or the recipient blocks our servers. It is important to note that we always include several relevant addresses in each mailing so that, in the event some boxes block the message, it still gets through to other recipients. We are continuing to find ways to work around this problem so messages continue to get through. Recently, we set up a network of multiple mail servers. In the event that mail begins to be blocked from one server we can switch to a back-up unit.

Why doesn't OneMillionMoms send a "thank you" to a company that does the right thing?
Most companies and advertisers specifically requests to not receive more emails. The initial issue usually generates so many thousands of emails, the company's system cannot handle another round of emails. OneMillionMoms thanks them on your behalf.

Shouldn't we thank a network for airing "good" shows like ABC's Home Makeover?
In very rare instances, OneMillionMoms recognizes shows that are free from sex, violence, and profanity. However, we must take into account the "dirty" shows that are promoted during commercial breaks, along with the overall tone of the network. Unfortunately, the networks, as a whole, are consistantly offensive to family viewing.

I've emailed OneMillionMoms and suggested action on a particular issue. I never heard back from anyone. Why?
OneMillionMoms get thousands of great suggestions each day. It is impossible to respond to each one personally, and to address each issue. However, please be assured each submission is personally read by OneMillionMoms staff.

How do you decide which issue will be addressed by OneMillionMoms?
The decision is usually based on the amount of feedback you provide. If we receive several emails about a single program or commercial, we research it for possible action. Unfortunately, we can't address every issue recommended.

How can I take action on something that offends me when OneMillionMoms doesn't address it?
We strongly recommend you contact the company or sponsor by going to their website and using their feedback/contact information. Many times, a single complaint can generate change within a company.

What if I receive a nasty letter from someone I contact?
Unfortunately, not everyone we target is open to receiving criticism. Though it rarely happens, someone may respond with a letter expressing disdain for your opinion. That goes with the territory. Don't let it dissuade you from continuing your activism efforts.

How do I unsubscribe from the OneMillionMoms.com mailing list?
At the bottom of each e-mail alert you receive is unsubscribe information. Simply follow the instructions given and you can easily unsubscribe.

How do I change my e-mail address?
Currently, the only way we have to change an e-mail address is to do so ourselves. We don't mind that, however. If you need to change an address, e-mail us at: contact@afa.net with both your old and new address.
